2020: Giving in the year that took so much from all of us
What else can be said about 2020? It was a challenging year for everyone and together we pushed through. In all of the pain and obstacles, we saw the beauty of humanity by those who gave and supported the Team BCI Charitable Relief Fund. Donors provided over $140,000 in contributions that went to individuals and causes that needed support.
Dr. Rex Marco
Our largest benefactor of 2020 went to Dr. Rex Marco. In a tragic accident, Dr. Rex Marco, a world-class surgeon and great humanitarian, went over the handlebars of his bicycle and suffered a broken neck. In an instant, his life changed from doctor to patient. Even with insurance, his medical bills rose rapidly along with therapy and other new costs.
His close friends rallied to support his new expenses and contacted the Team BCI Charitable Relief Fund. Together, we raised $124,419 and counting through online donations and an in-person fundraiser! Dr. Rex Marco may not return to his normal life, but he is not bitter and has not given up the fight to improve daily. He will continue to be supported and donations can be made at teambcirelieffund.org/rex-marco.
Additional Support
We were able to support others through generous donations. Contributions were made to individuals who suffered unforeseen tragedies along with other organizations that make the world a better place each day.
These organizations include CASA of Montgomery County, Orphan Outreach, and Passages for Woman. Together, we are helping in a time when there are many in need.
Looking toward 2021 . . .
We are already looking at ways to expand our giving in 2021 and are in the beginning stages of planning the third Team BCI Charitable Relief Fund Golf Classic. This year, the primary recipient of funds raised for the event will be Dec My Room.
Dec My Room enhances the lives of children who are being admitted into a hospital for a prolonged amount of time. Dec My Room Volunteers personalize the hospital room upon their arrival with items that complement the special likes and interests of the individual patient. These items are for them to enjoy during their stay and take home when they leave.
This year will be our biggest Golf Classic to date excitement is already starting to build. Registration will be open soon and we look forward to seeing our loyal donors and friends on the golf course while raising money for a great cause.
